OAKLAND A 37-year-old man was fatally shot in downtown Thursday, authorities said.
The name of the man, an Oakland resident, has not yet been released pending notification of his family.
The shooting happened around 4:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of Madison and 14th streets.
Police officers were flagged down for a report of a person lying in the street.
Officers found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and he was transported to a hospital where he died at 9:21 p.m., police said.
A motive for the shooting has not been released. No arrest has been made and no suspect information has been released.
The killing is the 73rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and the second in two days. On Wednesday afternoon a 52-year-old man was fatally shot at 71st Avenue and Hamilton Street in East Oakland. Prior to that shooting, Oakland had not had a homicide since Sept. 28.
Last year at this time police had investigated 112 homicides in the city.
