A newborn baby was found dead Thursday on a sidewalk in downtown LAs Skid Row area, and one report indicated the infant may have been thrown out of a window.

The baby was found around 5:30 a.m. in the area of San Pedro and Sixth streets.

Citing a source close to the investigation, KNX News reported that about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, a woman called authorities from the Weingart Center homeless services facility — located at the same intersection — and reported she was bleeding. Paramedics responded and took the woman to a hospital.

Three hours later, custodians were cleaning outside the building when they found the baby in an alley. Some bystanders tried to perform CPR on the newborn, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene, KNX News reported.

According to the station, the baby may have been thrown from a fifth-floor window at the Weingart Center.

No other information was immediately released, including exact age or gender of the newborn.
